James Reilly to discuss redress scheme with symphysiotomy survivors
The Minister for Health, James Reilly, will meet with survivors of symphysiotomy at his Department this afternoon.
Minister Reilly will discuss details of a proposed redress scheme for women who had undergone the procedure.
It was carried out during childbirth and has left many women with health problems and chronic pain.
Catriona Molloy from Patient Focus says a redress package will mean a lot for the women involved.
"For a lot of the women, it will give them closure and acknowledgement for the damage done," she said.
She also said it would help avoid the "adversarial process" of going to court for those women who would prefer to avoid it.
