RSA issues flood warnings for motorists as forecasters predict tornadoes in Ireland

The Road Safety Authority is advising all road users to take extra care as heavy rain and localised flooding is expected across the country today and tomorrow.

Met Éireann has issued a weather warning and is predicting up to 40 millimetres of rain, heaviest in the west.

It comes as European forecasters Estofex say that there could be tornadoes over Ireland either today or tomorrow.

Meteorologist with Estofex, Helge Tuschy, said the stormy, windy and rainy conditions are perfect for isolated tornado incidents.

Met Eireann said they do not forecast tornadoes as they are "notoriously hard to predict".

However, meteorologist Joanna Donnelly said funnel clouds are possible.
