A post mortem is under way on the body of a newborn baby found in Cork city yesterday.
Gardaí say that they will decide on what direction their investigation will take once they receive the results from the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Margaret Bolster, later.
Emergency services alerted Gardai after paramedics found the body of the baby in an upstairs bathroom of a house at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon.
The infant was pronounced dead at the scene which was preserved as a precaution.
It is understood the infant's mother, an Irish woman in her 40s, was also removed by ambulance to hospital where she is continuing to receive medical treatment.
