A soldier has died at an army barracks in Dublin, in what the Defence Forces are describing as a "tragic accident".

A soldier has died at an army barracks in Dublin, in what the Defence Forces are describing as a "tragic accident".

They said that 32-year-old Private Patrick 'Paddy' Conlon fell from a height in McKee Barracks, in the early hours of this morning.

Private Conlon was based in the 28th Infantry Battalion, Co Donegal, with an address at Cooloney, Co Sligo.

He was pronounced dead in the Mater Hospital at 2.10am.

Military Police and gardaí have launched an investigation and Private Conlon's next of kin have been informed.
