Fianna Fáil Senator attempts to force Seanad sitting during summer break
The Seanad is finishing up for the summer today, but Fianna Fáil Senator Mark Daly is trying to force a special sitting next month.
The senator is using an obscure law from 1972, where 20 senators can demand a debate on the introduction of new EU laws.
Senator Daly says Minister for Health, James Reilly, has questions to answer about how Ireland implemented a new law on organ donors.
"The Irish Kidney Association has described the Minister's signing of this EU directive directly into Irish law, without scrutiny, as the worst implementation of this directive by any EU member state," he said.
