The man who murdered Irish woman Jill Meagher in Australia has lodged an appeal against the length of his jail term.

The Herald Sun newspaper reports this morning that Adrian Earnest Bayley lodged the appeal with the Victoria Supreme Court yesterday.

He was ordered to serve a minimum of 35 years in jail after being sentenced to life in prison for the murder of 29-year-old Jill Meagher in Melbourne last year and 15 years for rape.

According to the Herald Sun, the Co. Louth native's family has been notified of Bayley's appeal.
