No 'significant' rain for the next week and a half, says Met Éireann

Although some parts of the country are covered by cloud today, Met Éireann says there is more sunshine on the way.

There will be sunny spells in many parts this afternoon with the mildest temperatures over east Munster and South Leinster.

Deirdre Lowe from Met Éireann says rain is not likely for at least the next week and a half.

"A lot of this weather is due to the Azores area anti-cyclone building over Ireland," she said.

"And in the summer, it's very slow to move. You know, once it becomes established, it takes a while for any fronts to break down.

"So for the next 10 days, I really can't see any significant rain on the way."
