Man shot dead in Dublin

A 27-year-old man has been shot dead in Dublin.

The man was discovered shortly before 10.30am this morning in an open area at Grand Canal View, Kilmainham (known locally as Dry Canal Bed) near Suir Road / Davitt Road Inchicore.

The man, who was known to gardaí, suffered at least one gunshot wound to the chest.

He died at the scene where his body remains.

A car believed to have been used by the gunman was found burnt out a short distance away in Rialto Court.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who was in the area of Dry Canal Bed and Rialto Court between 10am and 11am this morning to contact the incident room at Kilmainham 01-6669700, the Garda Confidential Line 1-800-666-111 or any Garda Station.

Gardaí are also particularly anxious to speak to anyone who was on the Luas Tram at the time or who were in the vicinity of the Luas stops at Fatima or Suir Road.
