Killer's apology 'painful to listen to'
The mother of murdered woman Alicia Brough has today described an apology from her daughter’s killer as "painful to listen to".
John Geary of Meadow Court, Newcastle West was today jailed for life for stabbing the 20-year-old woman, along with his ex partner Sarah Hines, his five month-old-daughter Amy, and her three-year-old brother Reece at a house in Newcastle West on November 15, 2010.
The Central Criminal Court heard his motive was most likely jealousy that his former girlfriend had started a new relationship.
He has said that he is truly sorry for the killings.
Gardaí believe that Ms Brough was murdered because she called to the house during the attack.
After today's sentencing, her mother Maria Dempsey said her daughter had died with honour.
