Doherty: Drumm's 'empty' apology 'insulting to the Irish people'

A Fine Gael TD has branded David Drumm's apology in today's Sunday Business Post as "pathetic" and "insulting" to the Irish people.

The Former CEO of Anglo has said he is sorry for the language used in the tapes, saying the recordings are "both embarrassing and shocking".

Mr Drumm also said there was no attempt to hide financial problems at the bank, or to trick the Government into giving it money.

FG's Regina Doherty has said the focus must now shift to uncovering the facts surrounding the scandal.

She said: "What needs to happen is that a light has to be shone on the information that is available, for us to seek out the information that isn't available and then people can draw their own conclusions.

"This isn't a witchhunt and I tell you what's interesting is that one of the most insulting things I've heard during the week is that when Mr Drumm says that due diligence on the Department of Finance's perspective was insulting to his intelligence.

"What's insulting to the Irish people's intelligence is the empty apology that he gives in today's Sunday Business Post, it is pathetic."
