'Page three girls' here to stay, says new Sun editor

The new editor of The Sun has said the newspaper will keep displaying images of topless models on page three.

The feature has often been criticised by women’s groups and earlier this month British Green Party MP Caroline Lucas wore a T-shirt with the slogan “No More Page Three” during a debate on sexism in the media.

But David Dinsmore, who replaced Dominic Mohan as editor last week, said it would remain part of the paper during an interview on Nick Ferrari’s radio show on LBC 97.3.

Asked if Page Three was safe from the axe, he said: “It is, it is. I can tell you that.”

He added that the recent rebranding of parent company News International to News UK was a “fresh start”.

Dinsmore said the decision to start charging for access to the paper’s website, which has been free, was because “we believe we have news worth paying for, content worth paying for”.
