Unite vote against pay deal

Public sector workers of the Unite trade union have voted to reject the Government’s revised pay deal.

Almost three-quarters of members – 72.6% – voted against the Haddington Road Agreement.

“A meeting of Unite public sector representatives will be held later this morning to consider the result and discuss further steps,” the union said in a statement.

The pay deal, which was unveiled last month after weeks of intense negotiations following the overwhelming rejection of Croke Park II, enables the Government to slash €300m off the state payroll.
