Man drowns in Galway lake

A 36-year-old man has drowned in a lake near Moycullen in Co Galway.

It is believed the Polish man got into difficulties while swimming in at Ballyquirke Lake at about 7.30pm this evening.

The Shannon Rescue Helicopter and the Costello Bay Coastguard Unit were called to the scene and recovered the man's body shortly before 8pm.

He was airlifted out of the water and pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to Galway University Hospital, where a post-mortem will be carried out.
