The group said that the aim of the event is to send a message to government about the strength of opposition to its abortion proposals.

Campaigners said that they hope the government will listen to the voices on the streets of Dublin this afternoon - the rally will commence at 3pm in Merrion Square.

Spokesperson, Cora Sherlock said pro-life campaigner's will not go away.

"We expect a huge number based on the interest and the reaction and the feedback that we got during our publication of the event and during the publicity that has gone on over the last few weeks," she said.

"We want to remind the government of their pro-life promise, remind them of the fact that they did commit not to legislate for abortion in Ireland, the pro-life majority in this country are not going away and they will remember this at the next election."
