Minister reassures Project maths students ahead of today's exam

Minister for Research and Innovation, Sean Sherlock, is this morning reassuring Leaving and Junior Cert students about Project maths.

For the first time, the Junior Cert cycle will be examined in at least some elements of the new curriculum.

Leaving Cert students will be answering questions from the new syllabus for the second year.

The Minister has been reassuring students that the relative newness of Project maths will be taken into account.

"We're still at the early stages of Project maths and there's still some ways to go before it's completely and utterly rolled out," he said.

"That is always taken into account as well, that there's an understanding by the State Exams Commission that this is relatively new curriculum change, and all of the factors that go with that have to be taken into account so it's important for people to realise that as well."
