Former Cork soldier convicted of manslaughter of cousin

A 25-year-old former soldier has been cleared of murdering his cousin Jonathan Daly who he stabbed 15 times.

However Anthony Leahy of Sirius House, Cork Road, Passage West has been convicted by a jury of manslaughter.

Jonathan Daly was described in court as a lovely man who was the demon when he had a drink on him.

He was stabbed to death by his cousin Anthony Leahy following a row outside the accused man’s apartment in Passge West where they had been drinking on January 19 last year.

It took the jury two hours of deliberations to return today’s manslaughter verdict.

The former soldier looked ahead and gave no show of emotion when the unanimous decision was read out in court.

His girlfriend Rachel Daunt sobbed loudly.

Anthony Leahy has been remanded in custody for sentencing on June 24.
