Lotto winner to take up golf; partner wants to stay in job

A couple, dating for only a couple of weeks, have collected a cheque for €10.6m from National Lottery Headquarters.

Mullingar natives Kevin Geoghegan and Carol Loran paid €2 each for the €4 quickpick which netted them the win.

The pair, who arrived to collect their winnings in a Rolls Royce and were joined by family and friends today, say they plan to take a holiday.

Kevin said he is quitting his job and wants to take up golf.

He said: "I don't know what I'm going to do with it, I'm just going to enjoy it.

"I'm going to become a handicap golfer. I love golf, but I could never afford to play, but now I'm going to become a good golfer."

However, Carol wants to continue working and she said she does not believe the win will change her.

She said: "Oh no! Hopefully not anyway, no.

"I would like to continue working for myself and remain focused, still bringing the children up knowing that life isn't easy.

"You know you work for everything, that's it."
