Bray housing protest sit-in continues

Three protestors in Wicklow are waking up after an uncomfortable night spent in a local authority office.

The two women, and one Sinn Féin councillor, are staging a sit-in at Bray Town Council, in protest at the authority's social housing arrangements.

Wicklow County Councillor John Brady is insisting the council house the women, who are currently being put up at a hostel in Rathdrum they say is unsuitable for their needs.

The women, and their six children, say they have been living in rented accommodation while on the housing list for between seven and nine years, but now their landlords have taken their houses back.

Councillor John Brady says he will stay in the building as long as the women want his support, but admits conditions are not ideal.
