'Get off your arse' Taoiseach and do something about assisted suicide

The Taoiseach is being told to "get off his arse" and deal with the issue of legislating for assisted suicide.

It comes after Enda Kenny rejected a call from Independent TD John Halligan to legislate in restricted circumstances, saying it was not open to him.

Tom Curran, partner of Marie Fleming who recently lost her Supreme Court case on the issue, was in the Dáil to witness the exchange.

He said the Taoiseach is misinformed as the recent court judgment made it clear that it was open to the Oireachtas to amend the law.

Mr Curran said Marie is running out of time: "And here Marie has another infection now, and we are trying to deal with that and I just despair.

"That's what I mean by 'talk is cheap'.

"Everybody can sympathise with Marie, Enda Kenny had lovely words to say what a fabulous person Marie is, we all know that Marie is a fabulous person, but get off your arse and do something about it."
