CPSU rejects pay deal; INMO recommends acceptance

The body representing lower paid civil servants is to recommend its members reject the last public sector pay deal.

The Executive Committee of the CPSU said the Haddington Road agreement amounts to no more than a 'tweaking' of the Croke Park two deal which its members rejected by 87%.

The CPSU said it is "unfair" to lower paid workers and doing away with overtime is a major impediment to the deal being accepted by the 12,000 clerical officers and staff officers in the civil service which it represents.

A new ballot will be completed by the end of June.

It comes after the Executive Council of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation recommended acceptance of the new "Haddington Road" pay proposals.

However, the INMO executive said the Government's insistence on increasing the working week for nurses and midwives, as well as the introduction of an optional graduate programme, will continue to be a source of frustration to its members.
