Father drowns while attempting to rescue child off Wexford coast
A 39 year old father has drowned in Co Wexford while trying to rescue his child.
It is understood three teenagers got into difficulty while swimming in Courtown Harbour at around 12.50pm this afternoon.
The father of one of the teenagers swam out to try and save them but got into difficulty and drowned.
The teenagers managed to swim to shore and raise the alarm.
The Courtown RNLI and the coastguard were dispatched and CPR was provided to the victim.
However, he was pronounced dead a short time later.
