Death of man in Cork city an 'unlawful killing'

Gardaí in Cork city investigating the discovery of a man's body beside an apartment block say they are now treating it as an "unlawful killing".

It follows a post-mortem by the Assistant State Pathologist earlier, the preliminary results of which indicate his death may have been caused by an assault.

The man's body was found in the refuse collection area of the complex on Bachelor's Quay yesterday and Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The alarm was raised at about 5.30pm yesterday when a supervisor inspected the chute which runs from the fourth floor of the block on North Main Street and Bachelors Quay in the city to the ground.

The body was discovered next to drains and a large rubbish bin used to collect waste from the chute.
