Man found dead by rubbish chute

Gardaí are investigating the death of a man whose body was found by a rubbish chute in an apartment block.

The discovery was made at the block in Cork city yesterday evening after a supervisor in the City Garden complex checked a waste disposal system.

Gardaí said they were trying to establish how long the body was there.

The state pathologist’s office carried out a forensic examination at the scene last night, which remained sealed off while further inquiries take place.

The alarm was raised at about 5.30pm yesterday when a supervisor inspected the chute which runs from the fourth floor of the block on North Main Street and Bachelors Quay in the city to the ground.

The body was discovered next to drains and a large rubbish bin used to collect waste from the chute.
