Five men have been arrested after an armed jewellery shop heist.
Gardaí said a four-man gang, carrying hammers and wearing balaclavas, smashed up the store on Drogheda Street in Balbriggan, Co Dublin, this evening.
The raiders fled the scene in a black saloon car and abandoned it in the town shortly after the robbery at about 5pm.
A large quantity of jewellery was stolen in the raid.
Gardaí said five men were arrested in a follow-up operation when a taxi was stopped and searched on the M1.
Jewellery was recovered in the cab by arresting officers.
The arrested men, four aged in their late teens and one in his 40s, have been taken in for questioning at Ballymun, Coolock and Balbriggan Garda stations under section four of the Criminal Justice Act.
No one was physically injured in the robbery but the shop was extensively damaged.
