Bus Éireann warns against strike action

Bus Éireann has warned unions that prolonged strike action could lead to job and wage cuts.

Members of the NBRU will strike on Sunday against planned cuts to overtime and premium payments.

Bus Éireann said that the move will cost them €200,000 per day of strike action.

Spokesman Andrew McLindon said that the firm cannot sustain further losses and has warned that jobs may be put at risk.

"Strike action will only increase those losses," he said.

"At the moment under our original business recovery plan that we announced in June 2012 and under the labour court recommendation core wages are protected and employment levels are protected,"

"But if our financial losses are worsened then we have to look at core wages and we will have to look at employment levels in the company unfortunately."
