McGuinness: I don't recognise these 'so-called republicans'

The North's Deputy First Minister has questioned who the people are in dissident republican groups, questioning where they were "when there was a war".

Martin McGuinness has told the Sinn Féin Ard Fheis in Mayo today that he is still prepared to offer dialogue with Republicans opposed to the party's strategy.

He also repeated his calls to talk to the Orange Order.

Mr McGuinness says dissident republicans cannot claim to have fought a long battle.

"Every now and again you'll see these so-called republicans parading," he said.

"And I look and I see these 50-year-olds, and I see these 40-year-olds, and I see these 45-year-olds … and I don't recognise most of them.

"You know what I wonder - I wonder where they were when there was a war."
