Man dies in Monaghan car accident

A man has died in a car crash in Co Monaghan this morning.

The 43-year-old was the passenger in a car which crashed into a ditch on the Monaghan to Glaslough Road at Crowey, Silverstream, shortly before 2am this morning.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the car, a 40-year old woman, was taken to Cavan General Hospital with minor injuries.

A second woman travelling in the car at the time was uninjured.

The road is currently closed as gardaí carry out a forensic examination of the scene. Diversions are in place.
