Guard llamas’ protect Swedish sheep

Farmers in Sweden have found a new ally in protecting their sheep from wolves – llamas.

After a number of their flock were killed by the angry animals, the llamas – which originate from South America – were been brought in to help out.

Nils Carlsson, a local expert on predatory management, told The Local: "There are a growing number of wolves coming to southern Sweden and they're killing farmers' sheep.

"So we realised that we needed to offer help, so we have been looking at llamas.

"It's important to stress this is just a trial. We're not saying this will save the sheep population or prevent any deaths necessarily, but it may help and we're keen to find out."

Llamas have already been used in the US to ward off coyote attacks.
