Quinn may 'name and shame' schools that hire retired teachers
Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn is said to be considering naming and shaming schools that insist on hiring retired teachers.
Mr Quinn believes that urban schools are continuing to call in retired teachers in a "cosy practice", despite many graduates being out of work.
Regulations oblige principals to use retirees only where all efforts to employ a newly qualified or unemployed teacher have failed.
Figures in the Irish Independent show almost 400 retired teachers were employed during various periods between September and February of this year.
