FG TD: Reilly has questions to answer over website funding

Fine Gael TD Michelle Mulherin is calling on the Minister for Health James Reilly to answer questions on the role of the youth website Spunout.ie.

Deputy Mulherin has criticised the HSE-funded website for offering advice to teenagers on threesomes.

She said the article is "gimmicky" and it suggests that bringing in a third person, who you have no feelings for, will "spice up" a sexual relationship.

Deputy Mulherin said Minister Reilly has questions to answer as Spunout.ie receives €124,000 in State funding.

She said: "What I am asking the minister is 'What are the parameters of this self-styled organisation?' and 'What healthy, well-adjusted person is looking to have sex with someone, he or she has no feelings for?'

"I don’t know people like that other than someone who has had a damaging experience in their life."

The youth website has invited Ms Mulherin to visit their offices, saying the focus of their information is on safer sex, contraception and respect.

Ian Power of Spunout.ie has defended the article.
