Man due in court after stand-off with armed gardaí in Limerick

A 38-year old man is due to appear in court this afternoon in connection with a stand-off with armed gardaí in Limerick.

A man was arrested shortly before midnight last Friday after barricading himself into an apartment on John Street, in Limerick, nine hours earlier.

Up to 20 gardaí were deployed to the building, including the armed Regional Response Unit, detectives, and uniformed officers.

Gardaí said the man inside the apartment had threatened to harm himself if they attempted to enter the apartment.

An eight-street pedestrian perimeter was set up by gardaí.

The stand-off ended peacefully and without injury.

A man is due to be charged before Limerick District Court at 2pm.
