Traffic chaos continues in Leinster, river bursts its banks

Torrential rain is having a serious impact on travel this afternoon, particularly in areas of Leinster.

In Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, the Slaney burst its banks in the town after bridges over the river were closed and businesses and householders along the quayside urged to evacuate.

In Dublin, The N11 is closed in both directions at Junction 5 and 6 as a safety precaution and will remain closed until further notice.

There are also reports of spot flooding in Howth, Portmarnock, Rush, Lusk and Skerries.

Traffic is also heavy across the capital and AA Roadwatch is appealing to motorists to allow extra time for their journeys and to use dipped headlights.

The M11 has been closed after Junction 5 Bray North, and is expected to remain closed until around 7pm.

DART services between Howth and Howth Junction have also been suspended and Dublin Bus is honouring all valid rail tickets.

Amber flood alerts have been issued in Wicklow for Greystones and Enniskerry over the weekend, with rain expected to continue to fall along the east coast.
