Gardaí are appealing for information after a man in his thirties was shot dead in Meath.

Gardaí are appealing for information after a man in his thirties was shot dead in Meath.

The victim - named locally as married father of three Peter Butterly from Dunleer in Louth - had dissident republican links.

He was killed in the car park of the Huntsman Inn bar near Gormanstown - at around 2.30 this afternoon.

Five men - arrested close to the scene of the gun attack - are being held at a number of north Dublin Garda Stations.
