10 out of 14 inquests due to suicide in Wexford Coroners Court sitting; locals describe 'national emergency'
Councillors in Wexford have described as "a national emergency" the news of a large number of suicides in the area.
It comes after it was revealed that 10 out of 14 inquests heard at Wexford Coroners Court last week were as a result of suicide.
Labour Party councillor in Wexford George Lawlor described suicide as a "scourge" that had gripped the country.
He added that local groups were now coming together to try to implement more suicide prevention measures.
Suicide charity in Wexford, Console said there was help out there for those who are suffering.
