Mozambique police investigate Cork man's death

Police in Mozambique are investigating the murder of a 32-year-old Cork man who was killed during a suspected carjacking over the weekend.

The man has been named as William Deasy from Dublin Pike.

William was working for Clonmel-based Kentz Engineers & Contractors when he went missing in Mozambique.

It is believed his vehicle was hijacked by his killers a short distance from his work compound at Moma on Friday.

Mr Deasy, who was single and the eldest of a family of five children, was reported missing by work colleagues and a search ensued. His body was found a short distance from the local Kentz base.

There are unconfirmed reports that the 32-year-old was shot dead, although police will only confirm he died a violent death which they are treating as murder.

It is believed the motive for his killing may have been combination of carjacking and robbery.

The Department of Foreign Affairs is liaising with Mr Deasy’s family. It is hoped his body will be flown back to Cork by the end of the week.
