Man due in Dublin court in connection with Gunn murder

Gardaí have made a breakthrough in the investigation into the killing of a father of two found stabbed to death and dumped in a ditch in Co. Dublin.

The remains of 28-year-old Peter Gunn were discovered at Dunsoghly Lane, The Ward in January 2010, 13 days after he went missing.

A man in his 30s is expected to be brought to court today and charged with murder.

Peter Gunn was last seen alive having spent an evening in a pub on Parnell Street later walking some women to their homes in Summerhill.

Thirteen days later his decomposed body was found in a drain on a back road in north Dublin.

In the days before the discovery of her son's body, Mr Gunn's mother, Geraldine made a public appeal, saying he had "vanished off the face of the earth".

In 2010, two men were charged with impeding a prosecution and withholding information on the killing.

Today, for the first time, a man in his 30s will appear at Dublin District Court charged with murder.
