Joe O'Reilly to apply for bail

Convicted murderer Joe O'Reilly intends to apply for bail, as part of his miscarriage of justice case.

He is serving life for killing his wife Rachel at their home in Naul, Co Dublin in October 2004.

In 2009 he lost an appeal against his conviction, but he maintains his innocence and is bringing a further challenge.

The Court of Criminal Appeal heard that last week that he hired solicitor Frank Buttimer, who needs time to take instructions.

An unexplained difficulty meant the 39-year-old prisoner was not in court when his case was called.

It will be called again later this morning when Joe O'Reilly is in attendance.
