Man killed in Kildare crash after pursuit by garda car

A man has died today following a crash after he had been pursued by a garda vehicle in Co Kildare.

The victim, who was in his late 20s, was seriously injured after the two-car collision on the R445 dual carriageway at about 3.20am.

It is understood the man had been pursued by gardaí. He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he died a short time later.

The cause of the collision is still not known.

The Naas to Newbridge lanes of the road remain closed this morning pending a technical examination.

The incident has been referred to the Garda Siochana Ombudsman Commission.
