Three important EU milestones for Ireland are being celebrated today.

It Is 40 years since Ireland joined the EU and 2013 is the year of Ireland's seventh Presidency of the Council of the EU. It is also the European Year of Citizens.

The Taoiseach, Tánaiste and Minister of State for European Affairs will mark the milestones at a flag-raising ceremony at Dublin Castle.

Other Government ministers, members of the diplomatic corps and some members of the public will also be in attendance.
