SVP report increase in doctors looking for assistance

GPs say they are struggling to make ends meet.

The Irish Medical Organisation says dropping incomes and rising business and energy costs are putting a huge strain on GPs and their families.

The Society of St Vincent De Paul says it has seen an increase in doctors, gardaí and teachers calling them for advice and assistance.

Dr Tadhg Crowley, who is on the IMO's GP committee, says it is a growing concern.

“When you’re trying to run a small business and trying to run a family home, if you’ve taken out a big mortgage with your income reduced by 45 to 50% along with increasing costs, going along you could end up in fierce economic trouble.”
