Post office staff threatened with knife during Clonalvy raid

Post office staff in Co Meath were threatened with a knife during a raid this morning.

Two masked men took an undisclosed sum of money from the post office at Clonalvy at 9.40am but dropped the cash as they left the shop.

The raiders then tried to escape in a car, which was parked outside, but had some difficulty and eventually made their getaway on foot before then stealing another car which they abandoned a short distance away.

The garda helicopter was scrambled immediately after the raid and two men in their 20s were arrested.

They are now being questioned at Ashbourne garda station under section 4 of the criminal justice act.
