Second man in court in connection with armed robbery

A second man has appeared in court following an armed raid at a credit union in Portmarnock in Dublin last Friday evening.

Sean Donnelly (aged 18) of Belcamp Crescent, is charged with robbery, while earlier, 43-year-old Derek Murphy, with an address at Macroom Avenue, Coolock, was remanded in custody until Thursday for possession of a handgun at St Samsons Court, Balgriffin.

Dressed in a blue zip-up top Sean Donnelly appeared in court on a robbery charge around two hours after his co-accused Derek Murphy who appeared on a firearm charge.

Gda Shay McGrath told the court that the 18-year-old made no reply when the charge was put to him at Coolock garda station this afternoon.

He asked the judge for strict bail conditions due to the seriousness of the raid at the Portmarnock credit union which involved a firearm being discharged at a garda and the hijacking of a car.

He told the court that Sean Donnelly was not the man who fired the gun.

Judge Bryan Smyth remanded him until Thursday with consent to bail on several conditions including that he signs on at a Garda station, stays away from Portmarnock and does not associate with Derek Murphy.
