FG backbencher disagrees with Kenny stance on bank pensions

A Fine Gael TD is disagreeing with the Taoiseach and Finance Minister on the issue of bank pensions.

Enda Kenny and Michael Noonan insist they cannot force executives who presided over financial institutions at the height of the boom to forego parts of their pensions.

Kenny today welcomed the decision of former AIB boss Eugene Sheehy to take a cut in his lavish pension pot, however he told the Dáil the payments are a property right, which means they are protected in law.

But Fine Gael backbencher Peter Matthews disagrees: “I think everything within law can be revisited, it’s a manmade construct and its cement isn’t made forever.”
