Minister asks Latvian authorities to investigate website
The Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald is to ask Latvian authorities to examine the website ask.fm following concerns about safety standards.
The website, which is registered in Latvia, is at the centre of controversy after two teenage girls took their own lives in recent weeks amid claims of cyber bullying.
Meanwhile, an EU survey has shown that Irish parents are among the most restrictive in Europe when it comes to what their children do online.
Brian O'Neill from DIT is involved with the EU Kids Online study and he said being too restrictive can lull parents into a false sense of security.
