Taoiseach: Motorists paying for bailout of Quinn Insurance

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has said the Sean Quinn judgement today sends out a message that people should always co-operate with court inquiries.

He made the remarks in Armagh where he was attending the North-South Ministerial Council meeting.

When asked if he had sympathy with Mr Quinn, the Taoiseach pointed out that every motorist in the country will pay a levy for the bailout of Quinn Insurance for the next 20 years.

However he also acknowledged Mr Quinn's record for creating jobs.

Mr Kenny said: "The Quinn family obviously created a great number of jobs over the years, but you have to bear in mind as well that, for instance, the consequences of the insurance levy will hit every driver for the next two decades."
