Man on Meagher murder charge attempts to take life

The man charged with the murder of Irishwoman Jill Meagher in Australia last month has been taken to hospital with self-inflicted wounds.

Adrian Ernest Bayley is reported to have made an attempt to take his own life at the Melbourne prison where he is being held.

He was then rushed by ambulance to an emergency department.

Mr Bayley was last month charged with the rape and murder of 29-year-old Jill Meagher in the Melbourne suburb of Brunswick.
