Further disturbances at Alan Ryan trial

Three men have been warned by a judge following disturbances in court today.

Robert Carroll (aged 27) of Ard Cluain, Clonee, Co Meath, is the second man to be charged with withholding information to gardaí investigating the fatal shooting of Real IRA man Alan Ryan near his home in Clongriffin, North Dublin on September 3.

Shouts of "Scumbag!" and other abuse were hurled at Mr Carroll as he was led from court.

Judge William Earley brought the men responsible for the outburst before him and warned if it happens again they will be jailed for contempt.

The court heard that Mr Carroll made no reply when charged with withholding information from gardaí last night but his lawyers say he strongly denies the allegation.

The 27-year-old has been remanded in custody with consent to bail despite Garda objections.

He was described in court as a flight risk who frequently changes address and stays in hotels.

Garda Alan Roche said there was strong evidence linking Carroll to the crime including vast amounts of CCTV, witness statements, telephonics, computer analysis and fingerprint analysis.
