US governor mixes up meningitis hotline with phone sex number

A US governor has been left red-faced after mixing up a meningitis hotline with a phone sex number.

Florida official Rick Scott accidentally read out a number of an adult hotline to people looking for information about a meningitis outbreak, and when they called the facility they were greeted by a woman saying: "Hello boys, thank you for calling me on my anniversary."

What's more, US radio station WUSF posted the number on their website but thankfully they were "quickly" informed that the digits were for a phone sex line.

The station said it was "quickly notified by a reader that the number instead connected to an adult telephone line".
