Up to a third of children in hospital are being brought fast food during their stay.

That is according to a study conducted at the Midwest Regional Hospital in Limerick.

It also found more than a third of six to 12-year-olds admitted to the facility are overweight or obese.

The research by academics in Limerick and Canada found half of all parents bring food in to their children when they are in hospital, and 60% of those opted for fast food.
