Calls for BOI to donate iconic College Green building

A Labour Deputy is calling on Bank of Ireland to donate their iconic College Green building to the State.

Dublin South East TD Kevin Humphreys has said that we have given enough to the banks, and now it is time to get something in return.

Deputy Humphreys is suggesting that the city centre building could be used as a new central library.

Speaking during a Dáil debate on Philanthrophy and the Arts, he said the money Irish people have had to give to prop up our banks has caused arts funding to dry up.

He has pointed out that the building is where Ireland's first parliament sat, and is therefore of public importance.
